Motif combines an independently hand-tagged recommendation catalogue with optional title metadata and artwork from TMDB. The two layers have different jobs, and this page explains where each comes from.

The Movie Database
When the online catalogue is configured, Motif uses the TMDB API to find movies and television series and to display available metadata and posters. TMDB does not supply Motif's hand-authored taste scores or recommendation decisions.
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

The detailed signals used to rank recommendations—such as atmosphere, pacing, character focus, visual style, intensity, and novelty—are part of Motif's curated prototype catalogue. A title found only through TMDB receives a clearly labelled basic profile until it is independently enriched.
What leaves your browser
Your selected reasons, free-text taste notes, saves, dismissals, and seen list remain in this browser's local storage. When online search is enabled, the title text you search and the TMDB title ID you select pass through Motif's same-origin Cloudflare Pages Function to TMDB. Poster files load directly from TMDB's image service. Motif does not currently provide user accounts or cross-device profiles.
